What does Alibaba.com mean to the individual consumer?

Question

I tried finding out from the website itself to no avail.  Can I - an ordinary person - use it to buy a single item such as with eBay?  Because there are things on it I can't find anywhere else.

Alibaba.com was created as a B2B platform where small businesses can connect with other small businesses for global trade.

For example, if you are running a small restaurant and need to find napkins, plates, pots, cutlery and menus, you might want to source directly from a supplier to help minimize your costs. If you are looking to find the right supplier, some will share samples with you based on your needs and requirements.

Since most suppliers sell in large quantities, we wouldn't normally recommend looking on Alibaba.com for one-off orders. I've shared a link below to our "Safe Buying" section on our platform.
