Is it safe to buy an item on alibaba.com's AliExpress site using my mastercard?

They do not let you use PayPal, which I would much prefer. It simply asks you for your mastercard numbers. Am I wrong or doesn't it seem like I would be giving my numbers to a complete stranger since it looks like the items come from sellers rather that just the website.

Anyone have experience with the site?
