Is Alibaba good for those looking to buy and resell?

I've been investing stocks for sometime and I followup on Alibaba at times that is how I heard about them and what they do.

I've never been into self import / export business and I have read people imported items from Alibaba and resell on Amazon and Ebay on competitive prices. But since Alibaba is becoming well known now, is it good business for me to buy and resell from?

This is always a risky venture, because you pay for the stock up front with no guarantee you will ever make any money on it.

Another downside to this can be the number of items you have to buy from Alibaba to get it at a decent price. At times the min quantity may be 100-1000.
