Doing business with China over Alibaba?

Question

I'm trying to purchase merchandise that is woth around $2000-4000s.  They want TT or Western Union, how can I be safe when I send the money?  If they do not send me the product can I get my money back? How would I know they are scammers? Some of them do have Websites and most of them don't.  What should I look for?

You WILL be ripped off. Don't send payment in this method. Use pay pal or Google Checkout.

Don't fully trust them. I met bunch of scammers who pushing me to buy their stuff. And most of them selling the products more expensive than what I could find from my local market. When I try to nego, they reluctant. I guess they just looking for westerners who desperately want their items and put high markup price cus most of westerners wont realize how much cheaper the stuff could be.

how about you ask for sample lot first then buy one or 2 lots next time.
or you could check the sellers' rate from previous buyers, are they trustable or not
